TRAGEDY AS TWO DIE EN ROUTE TO BAYELSA DEPUTY GOVERNOR’S BURIAL

AT least two persons lost their lives on Friday in a road accident while travelling to the burial of the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
The fatal crash occurred along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, when an 18-seater commercial bus conveying mourners to Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area reportedly collided with another vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the impact left two passengers dead on the spot, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, said victims rescued from the scene were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
“The injured passengers are currently receiving emergency care, and efforts are being made to stabilise them,” he stated.
The Bayelsa State Police Command also acknowledged the accident. Its spokesperson, DSP Musa Muhammad, said officers had been deployed to the area.
“Our men are on ground to manage the situation, carry out rescue operations and ensure public order. Details surrounding the casualties are still being verified,” he said.
Pen Blog Media reports that Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly collapsed and died on December 11, 2025, was laid to rest on Friday amid tight security and large turnout of mourners.
