BREAKING: CBN DENIES VIRAL ₦5,000 NOTE FEATURING TINUBU

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral image suggesting the release of a ₦5,000 banknote bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The image, widely shared on social media, sparked speculation that a new high-value naira note had been introduced. However, the apex bank has clarified that the claim is false and not from any official source.

In a brief statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the CBN stated, “This content is fake. Let the public be guided.”

Findings show that there has been no official announcement from the bank regarding any new denomination. Reviews of its official platforms confirm that no such policy or currency design has been released.

Further checks indicate the viral image was digitally created. AI-detection tools suggest a high probability that the note design was generated using artificial intelligence, raising concerns about misleading online content.

The idea of a ₦5,000 note is not new. The CBN had proposed it in 2012 but later dropped the plan in 2022. Since then, there has been no confirmed move to reintroduce the denomination.

The bank retains full authority over the production and issuance of Nigeria’s currency, and any genuine update would be officially communicated. Nigerians are advised to rely on verified sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
