THE Federal Government has announced a new agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) aimed at ensuring stability in Nigeria’s public university system.

According to government officials, the agreement addresses key issues that have previously led to industrial actions, including lecturer welfare, salary structure, and funding commitments to public universities.

The development follows a series of negotiations between both parties in recent months. Authorities stated that the outcome is expected to prevent further disruptions to academic activities across federal universities.

University strikes have been a recurring issue in Nigeria’s education sector for years, often leading to prolonged closures and delays in academic programmes. The new agreement is intended to provide a more predictable academic calendar for students.

Officials also indicated that discussions with other university-based unions are ongoing, with the aim of maintaining stability across all areas of the system.
