Abducted NYSC Members Rescued Alongside One

TWENTY prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and another person who were abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State have regained their freedom.

The victims were rescued on Wednesday following a coordinated operation involving security agencies in the state.

Reports indicate that the victims were subsequently taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri, where they are receiving medical attention.

The rescue followed the abduction of prospective corps members travelling through Imo State on October 1. The incident occurred around the Umunoha area of Mbaitoli Local Government Area along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.

According to reports, the victims were among passengers abducted after the vehicles conveying prospective corps members came under attack.

Security agencies subsequently launched efforts to locate and rescue those still being held.

The rescued victims were reportedly found around the Amakohia-Ubi forest in Owerri West Local Government Area, although authorities have not publicly disclosed all details of the operation.

NYSC DG VISITS RESCUED VICTIMS

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, visited the rescued victims at the DSS facility in Owerri.

Reports say the NYSC chief addressed the victims during the visit as they received medical attention.

The development brings relief to the families of the prospective corps members, whose abduction had generated concern since the October 1 incident.

The exact circumstances surrounding the rescue, including whether any ransom was paid or whether suspects were arrested, had not been fully disclosed by security authorities as of the time of reporting.

The rescued prospective corps members are expected to receive further attention from the relevant authorities following the ordeal.
